Since before the dawn of professionalism in 1995, it’s been common knowledge that many of our so-called “amateur” clubs have been paying their players.
Luckily our dynamic governing body are on top of the situation. 19 years later, they’ve issued an edict which has some pretty serious implications for all the WRU member clubs.
This is an extract from a letter sent to all club secretaries this week.
The WRU now have an email address where you can anonymously grass up any clubs you think might be paying their players in contravention of the rules.
If you’re unfortunate enough to be grassed up, whether the accusation is true or not, the onus is on you to prove your innocence.
That’s an interesting situation. Still, we’re sure our dynamic governing body has thought through the implications. In the interests of Welsh rugby.
